As senior anchor, Jamie Orchard’s solid journalism background and unique understanding of the issues and concerns of Quebec residents make her an integral leader of the Global News team.

Orchard joined Global Quebec in 1997 as a news anchor where she helped launch its successful local morning show “This Morning Live” before moving to anchor the 5:30 p.m. newscast in 2000. She then took on the senior-anchor duties for the 6 p.m. supper-hour newscast where she continues to provide viewers with the day’s major news.

Orchard grew up on Montreal's South Shore and knew from age nine that journalism was her passion. She took all the media and performance-related courses available at her high school and CEGEP, graduating with honours from both. She then spent two years studying media theory at McGill University before transferring to Concordia University's journalism program from which she graduated in 1991.

Upon graduating she left her beloved Montreal to start her broadcast career in British Columbia anchoring and reporting radio news at CICF Vernon, and then CKOR Penticton. She returned to Montreal in 1993 as field reporter and back-up news anchor on CHUM's CHOM-FM and Oldies 990.

Her television career began in 1994 as CBC Newswatch’s weather reporter. She then moved on to host her own daily live cultural segment at CFCF’s Pulse News in 1995.

Orchard is also actively involved in several community initiatives and charity organizations. She currently sits on the board of the Action Centre and helped launch the Chair Aware Challenge, a city-wide initiative that raises awareness of the challenges faced by those with physical limitations. She has also sat on the communications committee for the Generations Foundation and has been a Gala committee member for several events for the Missing Children’s Network. She has also hosted events for the Just for Kids Foundation, the Montreal Children's Hospital the Learning Associates of Montreal, the Israel Cancer Research Fund and the SPCA Monteregie among others. In 2004, Orchard was among 26 women honoured at the Montreal Chamber of Commerce “Official Gala Tribute to Remarkable Women.” In 2006, Orchard won CanWest’s Izzy Asper Community Spirit Award for her work on the Chair Aware Challenge.
