Amanda Jelowicki joined Global Quebec in October 2004. As a reporter /anchor Amanda finds herself living the best of both worlds - on the road chasing a breaking story and anchoring the News Final, Monday-Friday at 11:00 pm.
Amanda grew up in the Eastern Townships and developed a love for journalism at a young age. In high school she started a current affairs committee responsible for informing the 300 students about the day's major news stories.
She travelled extensively after high school, spending time volunteering in India and teaching outdoor education in Australia.
She studied journalism at university, was the editor of the university newspaper and won several media awards while there.
Her first internship was at the Daily Telegraph in London, England. She was there when the world learned of the death of Princess Diana. Several months later Amanda interned at the Montreal Gazette during the devastating ice storm of 1998.
After completing university, she worked as a reporter at the Montreal Gazette. Almost four years later, she switched to television, spending several years working at CTV Montreal before finding her way to Global.
Among Amanda's extensive news experience, she has covered four federal elections, three provincial elections, the death of Pierre Trudeau, the release of Karla Homolka from prison and the Dawson College shootings. Her passion is politics.
In her free time she loves running, cross country skiing, tennis, playing bridge and reading. Another interesting fact about Amanda - she's an animal lover who once cared for a pet deer named Hoppy.
